About BYOB Consulting
Built by a Business Owner - For Business Owners
My name is Ryan K. Craig, and I’m not a career “consultant.”
I’m a business owner first.
In 2014, after more than a decade in corporate retail management, I decided to build something of my own. I opened Berkshire Country Store in Connecticut and have been operating it ever since - managing staff, inventory, vendors, payroll, systems, marketing, and the day-to-day realities of running a real business. That experience changed everything.
Because when you’re responsible for everything, you learn very quickly:
-
Where money gets wasted
-
Where systems break
-
Where time disappears
-
And how much unnecessary complexity exists in most small businesses
Why BYOB Consulting Exists
I’ve always been naturally curious and focused on improvement. In my own business, I’m constantly looking for better ways to operate- better tools, better systems, better processes, better workflows.
Over time, other business owners started asking me for help.
In 2018, I officially launched B. Your Own B. Consulting Services (BYOB Consulting) with a simple mission:
Help small business owners save money, simplify operations, and build businesses that are easier and more profitable to run.
Real-World Experience - Not Theory
In addition to owning my own business, I bring over 20 years of leadership and operations experience across:
-
Retail management
-
Financial services
-
Multi-location operations
-
Team leadership and training
-
Sales and customer experience
I’ve managed teams, run multiple locations, handled budgets, overseen systems, and been responsible for performance. I understand business from the inside - not from a textbook.
That’s why BYOB Consulting is different.
I don’t give advice I wouldn’t follow in my own business.
How I Work With Clients
Most of my clients are transaction-heavy businesses - businesses that process a lot of card payments and rely heavily on POS systems and day-to-day operations running smoothly.
We usually start by:
-
Reducing unnecessary costs (especially credit card processing fees)
-
Then building a long-term partnership to:
-
Improve systems
-
Simplify operations
-
Implement better technology
-
Add automation and AI where it actually makes sense
-
Make the business easier to run
My Philosophy
My philosophy is simple:
Do the right thing for clients, even when it’s not the most profitable short-term choice.
That approach builds:
-
Long-term relationships
-
Loyal clients
-
Strong referrals
-
And real results
The Mission
Help business owners build businesses that work for them - not businesses that trap them.
That’s what “Build Your Own Business” really means.
